Today's Scripture | 1 John 3:11
11 For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
Valentine’s Day is a special day to surprise someone with a card or a gift and show that he or she is special. As Christians, showing love toward others should be our lifestyle. Sometimes Christians are quick to say, “I love you with the love of the Lord,” and then fail to follow it up with actions. It has been said, “Real love is an action – not a feeling.”
God didn’t love us because we were so lovable, but because it was His nature to do so. He poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit; and while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus said, “Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12). We can’t do it within ourselves, because as soon as we try to love the unlovable people He brings across our pathway, we blow it again and again.
As we grow in the Lord, He continues to put His love into our hearts; and it’s there when we need it. We probably don’t realize how some of the people we like to be around the least are really people God has sent our way. Let us practice spilling out a little bit of love and kindness upon them.
The Bible speaks of this love in action. Do our actions say that we really love others? Love requires more than idle talk or exalted theology. It requires simple acts in order to meet the needs of others. Can people see the love of Jesus in us by our actions as well as our words?
A Prayer for You Today...
As one created in His image, empower us today to be a person of deeper love, encompassing heart, soul, mind, and strength, both for You and for those around me. Teach us to love those dearest too us, those with whom you put in our paths. Teach us to love one another just as You have loved us. In Jesus' name, amen.
