Today's Scripture | Isaiah 43:18-19

Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing…

Have you ever known someone who had a great memory of a bad past? He experiences selective amnesia when it comes to the bleaker recollections.

After a short while in the wilderness, the Israelites remembered the fleshpots of Egypt where they had eaten their fill of bread and meat (Exodus 16). They complained that God should have killed them there instead of bringing them out to starve.

Those pots that they recalled with such fondness were huge cauldrons filled with leftover animal carcasses discarded by the Egyptians. They remembered the sound of bubbling water, the smell of boiling meat, and the fullness of their bellies. But they forgot the cries of the oppressed, the odor of slave sweat, and the emptiness of lives with no liberty.

In unfamiliar territory, we often long for the familiar. When we cannot see the provision, we yearn for the predictable. Instead of pressing into God, we wish for the seeming safety and familiarity of our yesterdays.

Do not fall back into the old life with its slavery and tears. When pressures loom, press into the promises of God. Instead of retreating into old habits, run to the Deliverer. Do not remember the former things; exercise faith for the future new things. Press in to press on!

A Prayer for You Today...

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Press on to receive the prize to which God is calling us! Accept the blessings of today. Expect the promises for tomorrow. No turning back! In Jesus' Name, Amen
